Things To Bring With You

When climbing Mount Kinabalu there are some items that you should not forget to bring with you:

Suggested Walking Clothes for Early Stages:

  • Shorts or lightweight pants
  • T-shirt of long-sleved shirt
  • Woollen socks
  • Sturdy shoes with good grip and ankle support (sneakers are far from ideal)
  • Cap or hat to keep the sun off your face

Extra Clothing (Carried in Backpack):

  • Waterproof jacket
  • Warm, lightweight jumper (polar fleece or wind fleece is ideal)
  • Warm, lightweight pants (not denim, as it remains cold when wet)
  • Spare socks and underwear
  • Beanie/Woollen Hat
  • Sturdy woolen or fleece gloves

Suggested Items:

  • Snacks – Energy bars (chocolate, dried fruit, nuts, jelly beans)
  • Water Bottles (Preferably two (2) 0.5l bottles). These can be refiled every 1km.
  • Water purification tablets
  • Sun block
  • Small first aid kit e.g. head ache tablets, band-aids, antiseptic cream, crepe bandage
  • Whistle in case of emergency in bad weather and visibility
  • Camera
  • Torch (head mounted is ideal for the early morning climb to the summit)
  • Spare batteries

All your gear should be packed inside waterproof bags in case of bad weather on the mountain. Climbing Mount Kinabalu tours includes includes meals as started in the itinerary. Bedding is also supplied at rest houses on Mount Kinabalu, you may bring your own if you wish but please consider the weight of your bag as the porters will charge you per kg. if you require them. You can store additional luggage at the Kinabalu National Park headquarters for the climb at and additional cost of RM50.00
